The central theme of this programme focuses on innovation across Lifelong and Work-related learning sectors. There are two broad strands covered: i) policy and innovative practice and ii) research and theoretical perspectives.
The unique aspect of this course is the ability to align the course content with your own professional practice. You will be able to specialise in a number of directions through your choice of optional units and the focus of your dissertation. The Southampton Education School has extensive research expertise in this area. You will engage in study and research in the company of internationally respected academics.
This programme will appeal to a broad spectrum of teachers and practitioners across all educational sectors but particularly those in post-compulsory education organisations.
The aims of MSc Education Practice and Innovation pathway are for you to:
Appreciate the context and policy drivers across the Lifelong and Work-Related sector
Develop an understanding of the nature of educational practice and innovation in the Lifelong and Work-Related sector
Recognise different forms of innovation in learning and teaching
Interrogate different forms of innovation and associated claims
Explore the barriers to and enablers of change in educational innovation
Recognise and critique the major processes of training and development
Identify the process of evaluation and its relationship to training and development.
In this programme, you take four common modules: Understanding education research, Learning and teaching, Policy and curriculum and Dissertation
You also choose an option, from topics such as: Inclusion and social justice in action, Globalisation and internationalisation in education, Learning and digital literacies, Mentoring and staff development, School effectiveness and improvement, Curriculum issues in mathematics education. These reflect our research expertise within the School. You may also be able to take an option from a range of master’s modules offered across the University.
You complete the programme with two compulsory pathway modules: selecting from Context of lifelong and work-related learning, Investigating innovations in learning and teaching and Training models and evaluation.
