This programme extends the knowledge, understanding and skills of professionals in schools, colleges, higher educationand local education authorities who have a commitment to their continuing professional development and improved practice. It also meets the needs of participants who wish to further their study of education as an academic discipline. It is seen as a Progression route to the Doctorate in Education within the School of Education.

Participants ‘build’ their programme by combining core courses, option courses and an educational research project, which are delivered through face-to-face teaching, selfstudy, and negotiated and work-based learning. In this way, it is possible to achieve an ‘endorsed’ MA which focuses on a specialist area of particular professional relevance to an individual or institution. The programme currently offers endorsements in Leadership and Management, eLearning, Literacy, Special Educational needs, Higher Education, Youth and Community, Early Years and Childhood.

In addition to the University of Greenwich Avery Hill and Greenwich Maritime campuses, the MA in Education is currently taught in Utrecht in the Netherlands and in a number of school based locations, and we welcome enquiries about ways in which the programmecan be adapted for individual and institutional needs.

The programme aims to:

Provide current and aspiring education practitioners and institutions with a flexible Master’s programme which extends knowledge and practice through study and research
Support continuing professional development, facilitating the progression of practitioners and institutions and contributing to personal and institutional effectiveness.
Provide those with a background and/or strong interest in education with a rigorous and engaging introduction to studying education as an academic subject at postgraduate level l
Provide a progression route to Doctoral study and research.
